Actually, it depends entirely on what you’re intending to do. There are two various LED usages that we should consider:
- As a power indicator—Yes! The current only need 1–2mA without diode;
- To give out light—No! The current need at least 20 mA. Meanwhile, diode rectification is also needed in the circuit to prevent the LED from burning reverse.
